The northern lights - Aurora Borealis
The northern lights are one of natures most exciting shows which can sometimes be seen in some parts of the northern hemisphere when the sky is dark.

Minna-Mosfell Guesthouse is optimally located on the globe and just far enough from the city lights so that the show is often visible directly from the farmhouse! The pictures to the right (and video on the home-page) are all taken around the farm.

When are the northern lights visible?

It is difficult to predict when they might appear but there are some useful online tools to help.

An illustrative map of the predicted current Auroral Activity levels is shown here (updated about every couple of hours).

Measurements of the geomagnetic field near mosfellsdalur (fluctuations often indicate auroral activity!) can be seen here. (updated every 10 minutes)

And of course in order to see the show the skyes need to be clear.
